Swamped... with a Peculiar Story

I am swamped and beat. And exhausted. Loving every moment of it but still swamped, beat and exhausted. I know that's the consequences of running one's own company as a start-up. But this week has been mentally and physically exhausting. With a touch of a peculiar story.

It started on Monday when I got a 9am phone call telling me the website we are translating will be launched the next day. Adoii... baru nak bagitau? Even though we only need to include the current news on their homepage, but still there were 13 articles altogether. And a seasoned web consultant like me (ehem!) would know that there will surely be glitches. And true to my words, we couldn't upload the translated contents because the permission / access to the CMS they are using got screwed up. Until today. So, agak stressful.

Then, in a very related story, the vendor (let's call them X) who developed the website, whom we befriended because they needed us to restructure that website earlier, whom we worked for peanuts with the promise of 2nd phase, with whom we brainstormed the 2nd phase and whom finally ditched us when they got the project, suddenly turned cold when they refused to help us with the problem with the CMS (which was their problem in the first place!). We then learned that they were pissed off because they said we entered the translation sebutharga behind their back.

I mean - picture this: we helped X with ideas for their proposal for the project at no cost. When they got the project, they kept quiet. When we asked, they said the client didn't want the IA portion (habis, idea kitaorg masa brainstorming yg kau pakai tu bukan ke client accept?). Then one fine day, we found the client's translation request for sebutharga on e-Perolehan. Since translation is not X's forte, we entered and we won. We don't need X's "permission" to enter a sebutharga for the client because it's totally different project which they didn't even participate!

Now they are mean to us even though the problem with the CMS is their problem. Even the client wrote an email asking them to rectify the problems and specifically asked me to cc related emails to her. Finally, Hubby managed to talk to X (after numerous unanswered calls) - and here's where the peculiar story is - the reason why they so pissed off with us was because they were promised by the client RM500K project value. But when they got the project, it was slashed because the client put aside a portion for translation (from the promised project value). And X was so pissed off because half of their portion goes to buying hardware i.e. servers and stuff. In the end, what they got to develop the whole website was almost equal to what we got for the translation work. That's why they are angry with us!

Seriously, I don't get it. Obviously we are not to be blamed for the budget slash. We didn't slash it, the client did! But I said in my heart - Allahuakbar, Allah s.w.t. tu Maha Besar. They ditched us to grab the whole project for themselves, hoping for bigger profit. But in end, our rezeki that they denied us was being re-payed in another way.

I spoke of this in our weekly team meeting - lesson learned - never, ever do such thing to other people. A business must be run honestly, with open heart. Rezeki is in the hands of Allah s.w.t. Must work hard and then ask from him. Insyaallah.
