Bali: Ubud Part 3 - Spa and Sanur

We planned our holiday in such a way that we spent the 2nd day crazily traveling, and the next day simply relaxing. Our 3rd day started after breakfast with a walk around Nyuh Kuning Village near our hotel. Time moves so slowly in Ubud. People don't rush. It feels weird. But it feels good. I could live like this...
This is one of the roads we walked at the village. Majority of Balinese are Hindus. Mornings are the time for prayers and offerings. You can see offerings everywhere especially in front of houses and shops.

One habit holidaying with Yatt is we like to go hotel hopping. We walked around, stopped at all the little hotels along the road, went in, asked for a tour and view of rooms, and get price quotes. I must say they have beautiful hotels in Ubud and at very reasonable price.

Of course no trip to Bali is complete without a visit to a spa. I tak pernah pegi spa, OK. So, it was my first experience. And it was so so good and so so cheap. We went to a spa called Alam Wangi, very exclusive looking place. We both opted for aromatherapy relaxing massage, body scrub (I chose salt scrub, Yatt chose honey and sesame seed scrub) and we finished off with hair wash with scalp massage. That lasted for about 2 hours. That was so so good... I could get addicted to it. I think I must have shed off 2kg of daki from my body. I felt so refreshed, and funnily a little bit slimmer. Hehehee... Know how much I paid for all that pampering? About rm100 only. That kind of treatment in KL can easily cost you rm250.

After lunch we checked out from Saren Indah and moved to Sanur. We are both 30+ ladies and noisy places are not our cup of tea. Ubud and Sanur are best bets. At Sanur we stayed at Stana Puri Gopa, also a nice little hotel of less than 25 rooms. This hotel is even better! They throw in breakfast, one dinner, complimentary drink with 2 platters of cold fruits and free airport transfer.
This is the entrance of our room. Just look at the intricate carvings on the door! The occupants are mostly Australians and we saw a few Japanese. I read in some blogs that some people stay at this hotel for weeks at a time, every year!

Next we went to Uluwatu also for sunset. Along the way we stopped at GWK Culture Park. Very Hindu influence of course with huge sculptures. We managed to catch Kecak dance there - they were actually practicing for the night show.
A Barong character - a tiger and little dancers in Balinese traditional costumes await tourists who wish to take pictures. We bought some T shirts here. I think it's a bit expensive since it's a tourist spot, but then we were their first customer of the day (and it was already 3pm), so we got quite good price. If you want to shop in Bali, try to be the first customer. They need the "berkat" for them to get more customers.

We reached Pura Uluwatu in time for sunset. Beautiful place of a temple up on a 100 meters cliff. There are monkeys here though, and our guide Made considerately asked us whether monkeys are a bother to us. We said we will be OK and went to explore. Great tour guide, huh? He remembered that we forgo the Monkey Forest because I told him I don't like monkeys. Here at Uluwatu I must say safety is not of importance here. The cliff is very high and there are gaps between the walls that can be quite dangerous.
We didn't go to the cliff on the left side. Looked too dangerous. Lagipun I ni gayat!

We finished the evening with seafood dinner at Jimbaran. It was dinner on the beach with huge waves rolling to the sands. Not so cheap here though but the food was good and fresh.

We then said good bye to Made as we won't be needing his service anymore. I promised to promote him, so if you ever plan a holiday to Bali, you can contact: I Made Dendiyasa tel: +6281 74793907 or email: baliguidedendy@yahoo.com.
