Bali: Ubud Part 2 - Kintamani & Tanah Lot

The next day was a whole day of sightseeing. It's good to hire a driver than joining a tour because you can decide where you wish to go and negotiate the fees. We collected brochures at the airport and the night before we circled the places we wish to go on the map. Based on the brochure, we have ideas on how we should pay our driver and the route of our tour. For example, we forgo places like Elephant Cave and Monkey Forest. Monkeys? I see lots of them near my parents place, so tak payah ler.

And one good thing about Made, our guide is that he took us to the best places. We started the day with a culture show - Barong Dance. It was quite good and they blended the dance with some comic acts. Then we went to two silver factories and saw how they actually created the beautiful jewelery. Yatt bought beautiful earrings of precious stones. Geram la jugak, if only I wear those... I bought hubby a silver ring with black shells at the next factory. Very beautiful. While waiting for Yatt's bracelet to be worked on (she bought a pretty silver bracelet that was too long and they actually removed the access and made it into a pair of earrings, so she actually got a set of jewelery!), I stood outside admiring the scenery of rice fields during a rain when the sales guys came out and played the "rindik" - a bamboo musical instrument. The music was simply beautiful. And they played the music for me! Hehehe... I asked them to play again and they happily did. Bagus betul orang Bali ni.
This is the view from the top floor of the silver shop. They sell paintings upstairs. After that, a visit to an art gallery and next to Kintamani.
First time tengok a volcanic mountain - Mount Batur. Amazing. Still barren after years and years of rupture. We were supposed to have lunch at Kintamani, but the restaurants serve pork, so decided to have lunch back down. Kintamani is very cool and windy, macam Genting Highlands sikit. But one can't really walk around in peace because ramai sangat orang jual souvenir especially kids. Very pushy.
On the way we stopped at terraced rice fields - nice huh! At the far end you can see the farmers "membanting padi". Very traditional way of farming. We had lunch at a nasi padang restaurant. Yatt had two fist sized "kikir" or urat masak gulai which is very expensive kat KL. Yatt then saw a lady carrying a baby outside the restaurant hanging around apparently asking for food. The owner packed some rice and vegetables and Yatt asked her to add a piece of chicken saying she'll pay for it (murah rezeki kau Yatt). The lady was so thankful she kept saying "Terima kasih bu, terima kasih bu...". Kesian... Anyway, the bill for the huge feast for us three + the pack for the poor lady was just about RM18. So very cheap...

Next we moved to Tanah Lot just in time for sunset. Amazing, amazing, amazing scenery with huge waves from the Indian Ocean. I used our old Canon Powershot yang dah tak lah elok sangat (take pictures got pink shades on the left and top!) but managed to catch some postcard quality sunset shots.
It was a very tiring day traveling from centre of the island to the north and then back centre and then south-west and then back to Ubud again but it was worth it.
