Kitty in the House

We have a kitten in the house. Since Sunday. I delayed writing about this because I was not sure whether it will survive. It's been 5 days now and it looks healthy.

Here's the story. Last week, we kept hearing the sound of a kitten very close to the kitchen. We thought there's a kitten in the dry drain next to our kitchen. With its mother, of course. Everyday I would go to the back of the house and try to catch a glimpse of the kitten but it cannot be found.

On Sunday, after Maghrib, Hubbs decided to rescue the kitten because its been meowing for hours. Even anak comel was not comfortable. Kesian sangat dengar bunyi anak kucing, she said. The sounds were so close to her room upstairs. So, Hubbs and I decided to "flush out" the kitten from the drain. Hubbs waited outside at the end of the drain while I was to pour water from inside, hoping the water will carry the kitten to the end of the drain. But when Hubbs used a torchlight to locate the kitten, the drain was empty. But the sound of the kitten was so loud.

So we listened and listened and... Ya Allah, the sound actually came from the roof of our kitchen! Hubbs went up the roof through anak comel's room but couldn't see anything on the gutter. He then took our long ladder and tried reaching for the kitten from below. At one point he had to use this iron rod to lift one of the roof tiles. All the while the kitten kept on screaming. It was really difficult as the roof tiles and the gutter are too close to one another. At one point, I actually gave up and told myself - we've done the best we could.

But Hubbs kept on trying and suddenly reached out, grabbed something and handed me the kitten. Ya Allah... it was so small and thin, and looked so frightened. So we took it inside and tried giving it some milk but apparently its still so, so small and couldn't lick from a saucer yet. After making calls to our nephews nearby, we managed to get a kitten nursing bottle and goat milk, thanks to Izzul who came by with the provisions.

That's how the rescue mission happened last Sunday night. Looking at the frail and fragile kitten, I didn't think it would last the night. It has been trapped under the roof for at least 3 days. And to think that the weather was really hot last week, and this week too. I thought of sending it to the vet, but then since I'm staying home, might as well I take care of it. We didn't put much hope that it would live, just that we needed to rescue it and try to keep it alive.

Alhamdulillah, it's day 5 today and it is still alive and getting healthier and stronger.
Day 1 - Sunday night. So small and frail. Can feel the bones when you hold it. Looks better after forcing some milk down its throat.
Day 2 - Monday. That's how I give it milk. Its eyes look clearer.
Day 3 - Tuesday. Anak comel pun tolong bagi susu.
Day 4 - Wednesday. Masyaallah... tengok muka tu. Nakal rupanya. Nampak sihat dan boleh pusing-pusing dapur. Tapi kesian. Lepas menyusu dia akan suck on my hands macam menyusu dengan mak dia. Sampai tertidur...
Day 5 - Thursday (today). Nampak very energetic. Surprisingly dia tak takut langsung dengan humans. Lepas bagi susu, I akan bawak dia pergi sinki dan cuci muka dia supaya tak comot. Kalau dia do business pun I akan cuci. Dia memang tak kisah pun. Pasrah saja 😅.

Itulah cerita macam mana we end up with a kitten in the house. Kalau 3 colours ni betina rasanya. Too small to tell. Nama pun tak bagi lagi. For now, temporarily is "Siti Atap" sebab jumpa celah atap!
