Nothing New Cinderella

Hari ni girls' hangout - Linda, Aliyah and I - at IOI City Mall. Tujuan utama ialah tengok wayang di GSC yang agak baru dibuka. Ceritanya - Cinderella. Linda yang beriya nak tengok. Teringat kisah kecik-kecik dulu suka fairy tales, katanya. I actually just wanted to check out LivingIndex and HomePro. Sejak 2-3 minggu lepas, setelah membuat satu keputusan drastic bersama Hubby, dah start tengok-tengok barang rumah. Bab itu belum boleh cerita lagi :)

Anyway, nak naik ke GSC pun takes some time (bawak Linda kena cari elevator instead of escalator), beratur beli popcorn pulak punyalah lama. Fahamlah tempat baru, staff pun mungkin belum expert lagi nak handle orders. But then, it's school holidays. GSC should have anticipated that the crowd would be huge. Kalau satu customer 5 minit, you can imagine berapa panjang queue.

The movie itself - so-so. Just like the reviews said - nothing new. Macam mana cerita Cinderella dalam buku, macam itulah movienya. No twist, no suspense, nothing. Yang menarik hanyalah details such as the dresses, the palace, the pumpkin turned carriage. Those things. One disturbing thought kept on nudging in my head - what fate befall a country ruled by a king whose obsession was to find a woman whom he's seen only a couple of times, whom he thought was the one based only on shallow advice of have courage and be kind. Seriously.

If you ask me, Cate Blanchett had the most fun in terms of playing dress up. Her dresses are oh so gorgeous! Helena Bonham Carter tried to make as if her being a fairy godmother can be a lot of fun, but she just fell flat. She did make her character interesting at first, but no matter how good an actress you are, there's only so far you can go with that kind of script, I think. By the time she turned the goose into the carriage driver, she looked like she just wanted to abandon the whole magic trick and go home.

So, one hour plus later, and a few nudges to the shoulder to Linda for being so noisy (siap melatah sebab terperanjat!), we had lunch at Johnny Rocket. Aliyah insisted we find the place. Original American Burger joint yang bila masuk teringat cerita Happy Days. And the waiter and waitresses performed a couple of dance numbers. Aliyah memang sukalah. The food was OK saja. Sebab dalam kepala teringat TGIF 7 oz. burger yang sangat delicious. But it was a fun lunch sebab they play 80's pop songs. Teringat zaman sekolah menengah dulu. I always believe music during the 80's were awesome :)
