Report Card Day

Last day of school and report card day. Aliyah already brought back a few of her exam papers. She did OK in most subjects. She got A for her English (mak bapak ex-TESL kalau tak dapat A memang nak kena!). However, as expected, she didn't do well in her Agama and that pulled her marks down. She got C (I at first thought she failed). It's not that she doesn't know the answers, just that her Jawi is weak. She didn't know the instructions - whether she should circle the answers or match or write, etc.

Anyway, Hubby and I had a long talk and we concluded that maybe our daughter doesn't cope well with pressure. She could do her homework and the tests that we gave her at home but exam time -the results are not as expected. Not that we have high expectations lah. I know my daughter doesn't cope well with pressure because last week I accidentally woke up 20 minutes late and had to rush Aliyah to get ready for school but she didn't respond to my "kelam-kabutness". She couldn't focus, got irritated and froze. I practically had to dress and set her snack box and water bottle in her bag. (I, on the other hand, deal quite well with pressure.)

Yesterday Aliyah told us her class for next year - 3rd last. Dua kelas jatuh tu! So, we agreed that we need to be more serious and strict next year. That we need to set a timetable for her this holidays. Hubby is entrusted with the task to create the timetable and teach her, I on the other hand, will plan our holidays :)

So, today we met with her teacher - her Math teacher as her class teacher was not well. We told her of our theory and how puzzled we are that she could do her stuff at home but didn't do as well in her exam. The teacher smiled and told us the truth. That our daughter actually spent 10 minutes doing her supposedly 1 hour Math 1 test. Why? Because she said she was afraid that she couldn't finish her exam in time! That was the reason and perhaps she actually "practiced" that in all her other subjects. I just don't know how she gets that kind of idea...

Anyway, she got number 20 out of 43 students which I think is OK (considering her kamikaze action) and her class next year is actually not 3rd last. Apparently there is the A class and the last class but all in between are grouped at random, which I think is a good idea.

Today we bought a few Standard 2 workbooks for Aliyah to do this holidays so that she catch up on her weak topics, and also bought Standard 3 workbooks - she needs to start early. And we plan to get her to "practice" taking exams - "exam-taking best practices" so that she won't do that 10-minute act ever again.
